Higa Garden (彼我庭園) in Yokohama Park (横浜公園)

Higa Garden & Yokohama Stadium in the back

There is a Japanese garden called Higa Garden (彼我庭園), next to the Yokohama Stadium, in Yokohama Park (横浜公園).

The park is the second oldest Western-style park in Japan which opened in 1876 to improve the living environment of the foreigners living in the area.  Since the park was open to both foreigners and Japanese, it was called Higa Park (彼我公園where 彼 referred to foreigners and 我 to Japanese.

In 1909, the management of the park was transferred to the city of Yokohama and the park was renamed Yokohama Park.  A Japanese garden also opened during this period.  However, the garden was abolished when the park was seized by the Occupation Forces after World War II.

In 1978, along with the construction of the Yokohama Stadium, a Japanese garden was reorganized and, in 2017, was named Higa Garden.

During the autumn leaf season, light-up hours are 16:30 ~ 22:00.
