Chigasaki's Kawazu-zakura Reaching Full Bloom

The Kawazu-zakura (河津桜) and nanohana (canola flowers), along the Koide River in Chigasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, are reaching full bloom.

Kawazu-zakura is an early flowering variety of cherry blossoms that usually blooms between early February and early March and is believed to be a hybrid of Taiwan cherry and, presumably, Oshima cherry.  The name comes from the town of Kawazu in Shizuoka Prefecture where it was first found in 1955.

The festival of Koide-gawa Sakura Matsuri (小出川桜まつり) is scheduled from February 23 to 25 and March 2 to 3.

    1. Are you referring to the kawazu-zakura in the Ofuna Area? If so, I think it's great. Just that Ofuna is a bit far away and that I don't have much time to visit the area.
