It is unclear when the shrine was founded.  The shrine enshrines the deity of Oyama-Kui-no-Kami (大山咋命).

On the left of the shrine building of Matsu Okami is the building of the subordinate shrines of Gion-sha (祇園社), enshrining Susanoo-no-Mikoto (素戔嗚尊), and Tenman-sha (天満社), enshrining Sugawara no Michizane (菅原道真).

There are a couple of stone monuments on the premises including a dosojin at the entrance and two koshin-to, engraved with the three wise monkeys.  One of the koshin-to has the date of "延寶八庚申年 九月吉日" engraved which converts to October 1680.

During spring, visitors can also enjoy the cherry blossom.

The mikoshi in the photo above was made by Yasunori Nakazato who holds a workshop, "Mikoshi Yasu (神輿康)," close by.  Mikoshi Yasu has produced many mikoshi and lanterns, including a mikoshi that went to Vancouver, Canada.  It will take at least 6 months to make a mikoshi.
